Presentation
The International Conference on Applied Communication will be held on May 28 and 29, 2025, in online format, as part of the Master's Degree in Applied Communication at the Escola Superior de Educação de Viseu.
The focus of this edition is on Communication Sciences in the various sectors of society, with the title “Communication Challenges in a Changing World”. It is aimed at students, researchers and professionals in the various areas of Communication.
The International Conference on Applied Communication has the following objectives:
- To disseminate scientific production in the field of Communication Sciences;
- To promote the sharing of knowledge and experiences between professionals, researchers and students in the field of communication, both nationally and internationally.

Mieko Wada (Brasil)
Deputy Press Secretary at the Communication Secretariat of the Government of Maranhão.
Journalist, graduated from the Federal University of Maranhão (UFMA/Brazil). She specialised in Contemporary Cultural Journalism, also at UFMA.
She has more than 15 years' experience in institutional and corporate communications, press relations and newsrooms. Skilled in creating and producing corporate and institutional communication channels, training spokespeople for interactions with the press, stakeholder relations, people management, press relations, as well as working extensively in communication vehicles such as TV, radio and print journalism in Maranhão (Brazil).
Carlos Dias (Portugal)
Carlos Dias holds a degree in Sociology and a postgraduate qualification in Human Ecology. He worked as a journalist for 25 years, primarily in the field of sports.
His main activity is currently communication consultancy, although he continues to collaborate with various media organisations such as SIC, DAZN and Renascença.
Maria João Reis Lima (Portugal)
She holds a degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto, and a PhD in Biotechnology from the School of Biotechnology, Portuguese Catholic University. She served as Vice-President of the Escola Superior Agrária de Viseu (ESAV/IPV) from February 2016 until 2024. She is currently a Coordinating Professor at ESAV and a member of the Centre for Natural Resources, Environment and Society (CERNAS). She is also the Course Director for the BSc in Food Engineering and the MSc in Food Quality and Technology. Since August 2024, she has held the position of Chair of the IPV Ethics Committee.
She has been involved in several national and international research and development projects, carrying out scientific work in the fields of Food Science and Nutritional Sciences. Her research primarily focuses on the characterisation and valorisation of the Mediterranean diet, nutraceuticals, nutrition, and sustainable food systems.
She is the author of numerous publications in journals indexed in the Journal Citation Reports, as well as book chapters and technical publications at both national and international levels. She has delivered several oral and poster presentations at international conferences.
Tiago Gonçalves (Portugal)
Tiago Gonçalves is an Assistant Area Manager at Pousadas de Portugal, with a Master’s degree in Marketing Management and a clear passion for developing the teams he leads. He believes that true success comes from creating environments where results naturally emerge from commitment, motivation, and continuous personal growth.
With a constant growth mindset, Tiago enjoys stepping out of his comfort zone, learning from challenges, and helping others do the same. He values conscious leadership that balances performance with social and environmental responsibility, firmly believing that sustainability should be at the heart of strategic decision-making. Outside of work, he’s passionate about sports, reading, and, above all, his family — his greatest sources of energy and inspiration.

Chechu Pérez - Universidade de Vigo (Espanha)
With an european's mention doctorate and a solid scientifical background in Communication Sciences, he gratuated in Advertising and Public Relations, Journalism and Audiovisual Communication. He is a professor at the University of Vigo, where he worked to boost the Master's Degree in Advertising Art Direction, and filled in the role as a Communications Director.
He is a specialist in the development of creative media strategies and advertising messages, brand management and institutional advertising. Has over 60 publications in the field, and has participated in several investigation projects that have as the main subject advertising.
He has collaborated with several advertising agencies, developing projects for Abanca, Adeslas, Aeroportos de Portugal, Cacique, Caixabank, E-on, Edurne Pasaban, El Niño, Estrella Galicia, Gas Natural, Grupo Mondragón, Hijos de Rivera, Hispania Racing F1 Team, Inditex, ING, R, Super Bock and Texaco. He was also the president of the Associação Profissional de Publicitários da Galícia, Creatividade Galega between 2010 and 2014, advisor of the president of Xunta de Galicia, and main responsible for their advertising campaigns between 2015 and 2024.
Patrícia Rodrigues Tomaz (Brasil)
She holds a PhD and a Master’s degree in Linguistics from the Federal University of Piauí (UFPI). She is a teacher, lawyer, and conflict mediator. She holds a degree in Portuguese Language and Literature from the Estácio University Centre of Ribeirão Preto – Teresina Campus (2021), and a Law degree from the Teresina Faculty of Human, Health, Exact and Legal Sciences – CEUT (2013).
She is a certified specialist in Conflict Mediation (Estácio Teresina) and holds postgraduate qualifications in Civil Law and Civil Procedure from Estácio–CEUT (2015), as well as in Family and Succession Law from CERS College (2023).
Her research focuses on Argumentation, Rhetoric, and the Semiolinguistic Theory of Discourse Analysis, particularly applied to legal discourse. She is a member of the Centre for Research and Studies in Discourse Analysis at the Federal University of Piauí (NEPAD/UFPI), and a member of the Commission on Restorative Justice and Systemic Law of the Brazilian Bar Association – Piauí Section (OAB-PI).
